Abstract
Background: Anxiety in patients with myocardial infarction can activate the hormone cortisol to stimulate catecholamines which will increase heart rate, vasoconstrict blood vessels, and increase blood pressure. This can also cause cardiac burden and oxygen demand to increase so that the ischemic condition will get worse. Acupressure has a calming effect, promotes natural relaxation and regulates and stabilizes emotions.
Methods: The design of this study used one group pretest posttest. the sampling technique is the total sampling technique. Normality test with Shapiro-Wilk test and analysis technique using parametric paired T-test and Wilcoxon test.
Results: Based on the test results it is known that sig. the resulting value is 0.000 which is smaller than 0.05. Thus, it can be concluded that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. In other words, there is a significant difference between anxiety scores before and after acupressure therapy in patients with acute myocardial infarction in the ICU room at the one of Hospital, Surakarta.
Conclusion: There is an effect of acupressure therapy on the anxiety of patients with acute myocardial infarction in the ICU room at the one of Hospital, Surakarta
